Tradition Lives On

Today is a special day in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is the grande opening of Chipotle - Chapel Hill!! This closes the gap a little more in the food items we miss most since leaving Ohio. All who know Jon and I know that we are rabid Chipotle fans. We used to eat at Chipotle nearly every Sunday after church; however, when we moved to North Carolina we were saddened to see that there were only two of our favorite burrito restaurants in the entire state! We contemplated a letter writing campaign or launching a website: www.bringchipotletochapelhill.com, but much to our delight, Chipotle came to their senses before we had to go to such extremes. This past winter we were driving down Franklin St. (the main drag in Chapel Hill) when we saw a new sign posted in front of a construction site. It said "burritofication in progress" - code for Chipotle is comin', folks! It is a happy day indeed.

Another layer to our deep love of Chipotle is our tradition of attending the grande openings of their restaurants. Today makes our 5th grande opening in the last four years. Here is a picture of us at the Colerain, Ohio opening in December 2003 (with the Chipotle regional manager) and a picture of us today. (Notice our growing collection of Chipotle t-shirts.)

That is awesome! I don't know what Josh and I would do without Chipotle. We eat there at least once a week!

Do you think their chips are a little on the SALTY side? I'm an add-salt-before-consuming-anything gal, so that's a bold question coming from me. I do like their pork burrito, though. Yummy.

Oh, and we actually went to the grand opening week of Chipotle in Cali. It was our first introduction to their wonders.

I love this post! Eric and I actually ate at the Colerain Chipotle last night (the closest one to our house UNTIL gasp, the GRANDE opening of a Chipotle RIGHT by our house this summer!). We split a burrito bowl and chips but each of us HAD to have our own guac - I crave Chipotle guac on a regular basis. And Karen, to answer your question, sometimes, but only sometimes, Chipotle chips can be too salty. Our chips last night were to die for!!! mmmmm.

On the saltiness debate...I have had an oversalted chip or two, but that should not distract from the perfection of their burrito composition. Mmmmmmm, mmmmm good! :)
