Dewey experienced his first family camping trip this weekend! We ventured to Hanging Rock State Park, just a few hours from home on the mountainous side of the state. This trip was full of firsts for our little pup. He learned how to jump on top of things (as you can see by his perch on the bench of our picnic table - he claimed our tent bag while we were setting up the tent). Dewey was also happy to discover that the campsite was covered in woodchips, so he could enjoy his favorite pastime of chewing wood all weekend, and he did!

He also began to tap into his retriever blood when we took him to the lake. He isn't swimming laps around the lake quite yet, but he enjoyed exploring the shallow water and bringing us every stick he could find. He's going to be quite the retriever someday very soon!

This amazing 4-month-old also climbed his first mountain! We figured that if ever there was a way to tire an energetic puppy, mountain-climbing ought to do it! So, all three of us hiked to the top of Hanging Rock.

It was only about 3 miles roundtrip, but the steep inclines and rocky surface gave all of us a run for our money. Dewey happily trotted up the mountain side and greeted every single group of hikers that stopped to pet him. He was arguably the most popular fella in the park today - we probably talked to nearly 30 people in just a few hours. It did the trick of tiring him out - he's been snoring ever since (and so have we!).
