TEXAS Roadtrippin'

It's day 5 of our Texas roadtrip and we have now driven over 700 miles, visited 4 cities, and eaten at least 5 lbs. of Mexican food each. Our journey began in Dallas, Texas with a driving tour of the city and dinner Uptown. The next day we made our way three hours down the road to College Station - the home of Texas A&M University and the mecca of Dave Stanfield. Dave gave us the grande tour of Aggieland - teaching us all the history & traditions of A&M. For lunch we had an authentic Texas BBQ - brisket and sweet tea! In the afternoon we went to Dave's brother Ethan's graduation. George Bush ('41) was the commencement speaker. (That's the photo below, although it's a bit hard to see his face.)

The next stop on our journey was San Antonio. We stayed in a fantastic hotel right on the riverwalk, enjoyed Mexican food & Margaritas by the water, took a boat tour, and made the requisite stop at the Alamo (which surprised us because it is in the middle of the city!). On our way out of San Antonio, we stopped along the Comal River to take part in the Texas tradition of tubing. This was a surprise stop that Dave had planned for us - we were very excited for the chance to lay in the water for a few hours!

The last leg of our journey took us through Austin, Texas - apparently known as the live music capital of the US. We enjoyed an evening of good food and exploring the local establishments. Some of Dave's friends showed us around the city and then around the University of Texas campus the next day. Of course, we also payed hommage to the state capitol. They proudly tell you that their capitol building is taller than the US capitol - because everything's bigger in Texas!

Now we're back where we began - in Dallas, TX. It was nice to have a few days break from interviewing-mania! As of this afternoon, we're all back to "job search mode" as Matt awaits final word on his recent interviews, Dave leaves today for an interview in the middle east, and I leave tomorrow for another interview in Florida. Whew! Those frequent flyer miles are piling up!!
