Carolina Fall

We moved south to escape the cold winter days, so I truly never thought I would find myself looking forward to the cool, crisp days of Autumn.  However, 6 months of a long, hot summer will change a person's perspective.  It's just now starting to feel like fall around here so we have been out and about enjoying the activities of the season. Here are a few October highlights:

Beautiful Mountains of NC
Wow, wow! A weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains reminded me how lucky we are to live in North Carolina. It's wonderful to live within a couple hours drive of beautiful beaches and inspiring mountains. We're doing our best to take full advantage of both!  A few weeks ago we spontaneously took off for a weekend near Boone, NC.  We stayed in a tiny little cabin and did lots of hiking and mountain eatin' in the area for the weekend.  Supposedly we hit the area just in time for peak fall foliage - it was pretty spectacular!

The North Carolina State Fair
This is our third fall in NC and, up until now, we still hadn't visited the North Carolina State Fair.  Our friends tells us that is an unforgivable crime, so we finally broke down and made an evening of it. Whoa!  More fried food than you could ever imagine! We ate fried pecan pie and, yes, it was as rich as it sounds. We stayed just long enough to eat our wallets empty, see a gigantic pumpkin, and watch the eclectic fair-going crowd. The NC State Fair has now been checked off my life list.

Basketball Season Begins
We had our first opportunity to attend Late Night with Roy - the season debut
for the Carolina Men's Basketball team. Unlike most other Bball events we've attended, the game itself was an afterthought on this night.  The team danced for us, they dressed up in ridiculous costumes, and they poked plenty of fun at their coach.  After all that was done, they also shot a few hoops.  The crowded arena and sychronized cheers just have a way of getting me all fired up for the season.  We're looking forward to a GREAT season with our #1 ranked team, and hope that we'll finally get to experience a National Championship in Chapel Hill!

Halloween
Some might call this animal abuse, but really, he is SO cute! I couldn't resist. He makes a handsome little devil!
